In Space, SENER has developed from its beginnings mechanisms and mechanical systems that cover almost all the needs of the Flight Segment. Moreover, SENER supplies essential items for completing successful missions, such as Attitude or Control Systems (AOCS) and Guidance, Navigation and Control systems (GNC). All this is backed up with technical solvency, successfully proven with more than 20 satellites and spacecrafts currently operating with SENER equipment on board. In fact, SENER has a major history of meting deliveries, with which it has achieved a reputation for quality and reliability in Space.
In its 40 years, SENER has supplied over 150 systems for 46 satellites without a single failure. The company has taken part in ESA and NASA missions such as the Hubble Space Telescope, Columbus, Envisat, Rosetta, Meteosat, Herschel and Planck, Metop, Mars Science Laboratory or GAIA, as well as commercial missions such as Hispasat, Spainsat or XTAR-EUR.
Mention should be made of its being the first Spanish company to win a European Space Agency (then the ESRO), tender in 1967, to design and build the rocket targeting and launch tower in Kiruna (Sweden).
Supplier of equipment for space flight
SENER takes part in most ESA space programmes as a recognised supplier of mechatronics and complex mechanical systems.
SENER’s catalogue includes a series of components such as high-precision rotary or linear actuators, a family of deployment and speed regulators and a wide range of fixing systems.
Moreover, SENER is one of the main suppliers of complete electro-mechanical systems for different space applications such as deployment systems for antennae, masts and pointing and scanning mechanisms. Some examples of these programmes are CLUSTER, HELIOS, ENVISAT, MSG, METOP etc.
SENER also develops, manufactures and tests mechatronics for specific applications such as blinds, focusing systems, filter wheels or high accuracy micro-positioning systems for different missions such as HUBBLE TELESCOPE, METEOSAT SECOND GENERATION and GAIA.
Its experience in the area of structures makes SENER a supplier of complex structural systems for key programmes, such as METEOSAT SECOND GENERATION, ROSETTA, GAIA, COLUMBUS or EXOMARS.
SENER designs and produces electronic control systems, including control software for all types of mechatronics and explosive release units for separation mechanisms that are working on many space instruments and systems, such as ENVISAT-MIPAS or HISPASAT.
