SENER participates at Eurosatory 2010

14/06/2010

The company is exhibiting at the Eurosatory 2010 International Land, Airland and Homeland Defense Week as a design authority in missiles such as Meteor, IRIS-T and NSM, and with the BIOSENer non-intrusive real-time physiological status monitoring system as Star product.

SENER is a private Spanish company which for the last 40 years has supplied equipment, integrated systems and engineering services to the international defense and aerospace markets, areas in which its core business is the engineering and production of mechatronics and guidance, navigation and control systems, as well as ISR systems.

At this new edition of Eurosatory 2010, to be held in Paris between June 14 and 18, once again SENER will have its own stand in the Spanish Pavilion. The main projects that the company will be showcasing at the event include:

  •  the METEOR program, an Air to Air medium-long range missile, in which SENER participates as design authority and supplier of the FAS (Fin Actuation Subsystem) for MBDA-UK, and is also responsible for completing its development, qualification and manufacturing of all the units series during the production stage;
  • the IRIS-T AA short-range Air to Air missile, in which SENER is the design authority and only supplier of the control section, besides providing support in the integration of the missile in the Spanish Air Force's EF-18/C-15 aircraft; and the IRIS-T SL short-range Surface to Air missile, for which the company is also design authority and the only supplier of the control section;
  • the NSM programme, which stands for Naval Strike Missile, a new land-sea missile developed by the Norwegian Company Kongsberg Defence & Aerospace AS (KDA), which will replace one of the first and most successful coastal defence missiles, the Penguin. In this programme, for the next three years, SENER will be producing and supplying the Actuation and Control System of the new missile;
  • Sagitario, a SHORAD (Short Range Air Defence) system based on the SL-AMRAAM (Surface-launched AMRAAM) solution, that operates standard AMRAAM and IRIS-T missiles from a common launcher. SENER is the main contractor in this programme, leading a team with Raytheon Integrated Defence Systems, Kongsberg and DIEHL BGT Defence;
  • the TAURUS KEPD 350 programme, a long-range missile developed by the TAURUS SYSTEMS GmbH (TSG) company, for which SENER has several hundreds of FAS units series and in which it is also the main contractor with the Spanish Air Force in the programme for the acquisition of KEPD 350 missiles for the F-18, including in-plane integration, the supply of the missiles and the ground support equipment.
  • the BIOSENer mechanism will also be on show at the stand, a real-time physiological welfare monitoring system developed by SENER, which combines a small non-intrusive ergonomic device and a wireless communication system to monitor the user's vital signs 24-7 without affecting operability. BIOSENer provides data on the individual's condition by measuring and processing heart rate and electrocardiogram, respiratory rate, temperature and activity; these data are used to determine the level of effort, stress, fatigue, heat strokes, position and, in general, the individual's physical status, activating warnings and indicating risk level.

With more than 25 years as a European centre of excellence in design, development, production, integration, tests and logistics support of actuation and control systems for the aerospace industry, SENER develops and produces solutions for fins control, locking and deployment, seekers and vector control for missiles and other guided systems, and participates in several major European programs for clients such as the Spanish Ministry of Defence, the Spanish Navy, the Spanish Air Force, the Civil Guard, MBDA-UK, ZEISS, DIEHL BGT Defence, TAURUS Systems GmbH, Kongsberg Defence & Aerospace, and Oto Melara, among others.

SENER's capacity for managing multidisciplinary projects enables it to lead or collaborate in defense programs involving integrated systems. For example, SENER has supported the Spanish Air Force during the integration of the IRIS-T in the EF18, and is the Prime Contractor for the TAURUS KEPD 350, supplying a number of missiles, special ground support and mission equipment and supporting the integration of the missile in the EF18.
