- SENRAL – Laparoscopy Robot Assistant
Nowadays, laparoscopy operations require a main surgeon to perform surgery and a second surgeon to handle the camera. Laparoscopy is becoming increasingly more widespread thanks to the benefits it provides to the patient, and increasingly more complex and longer surgery can now be performed by means of this minimally invasive technique.
SENRAL is a robot specially designed to be used in laparoscopy surgery which makes it possible to control the positioning of the laparoscopy camera directly inside the abdominal cavity. SENRAL moves and maintains the camera position in the abdominal cavity following the voice orders issued by the surgeon.
SENRAL frees the surgeon from having to hold and guide the laparoscopy camera, and its five degrees of freedom enable it to imitate the specific movements of this activity. Due to the fact that it is an automatic system, camera movements are accurate and its position is completely stable, and it is not affected by fatigue or trembling, thus guaranteeing excellent image quality to the operating surgeon.
SENER manufactures and markets SENRAL with the CE marking, for which purpose it holds the licence to manufacture health products for the industrialisation of SENRAL awarded by The Spanish Agency of Medicines and Medical Devices. SENER has thus become the first company to manufacture this type of robot in Spain. SENER holds the exclusive licence to the SENRAL national and international patents.
The robot has participated in real operations, and is now a commercial product.
